The Dental Implant Procedure in Arvada, CO

Dental implants are increasingly being used to restore patient’s oral health. With implants, we can permanently replace a single or multiple missing teeth. When used in conjunction with a dental crown, bridge or denture device, we can restore your bite, your function, and your aesthetics. At Mountain Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, we perform most implant procedures in an outpatient surgical treatment. The process may involve several steps that can take months depending on the preparatory restorative work that needs to be done. Dr. Ryan begins the process with a thorough dental exam, this will involve dental x-rays to examine your bone mass and density available. Following your exam, we can design a treatment plan specific to your needs.

The Dental Implant

Dental implants are a titanium post that resembles what we think of as a screw in look. We use titanium because it is a biocompatible material, meaning that it will not be rejected by your body. Titanium is the metal of choice when completing a number of surgical procedures, including hips, knees, and more. The human body is willing to grow around the implant, incorporating it into your bone, making a strong and permanent hold. In most cases, your implant will never need to be replaced.

Implants are available in a large variety of sizes to accommodate your needs. The come in various lengths and widths, and can be placed at various angles to assist in being placed in areas of the healthiest bone.

Preparatory Steps Before Implant Placement

In most situations, some preparatory work is necessary before Dr. Ryan is able to place your dental implant. This may involve:

•  The removal of damaged or severely decayed teeth.
•  A simple bone graft to robust your jawbone.

The healing process from the preparatory work can take multiple months before we can proceed to placing the implant.

Placing The Dental Implant

Dental Implant in bottom teethPlacement of the dental implant is a simple procedure, once the planning and preparatory work is completed. Dr. Ryan will open the tissue revealing the bone. Using a specialized drill, Dr. Ryan creates the space needed in the bone for the implant post. The post is placed and the tissue is then sutured closed.

Most patients find that they only require an over the counter pain reliever in the first few days following placement. Most patients are able to resume normal daily activities including returning to work within one to two days. The tissue will heal quickly, within days, but the overall healing process includes the fusion of your bone and the implant, which can take multiple months. Most patients will then have their dental appliance placed on the firm, and stable dental post after full healing has occurred. Some patients may have a denture appliance known as an immediate loaded denture appliance, or the All-On-4 Treatment Concept placed, meaning they will have to take extra caution while the bone heals around the implants.

"Had an overall great experience with Dr. Ryan. The staff was very courteous and professional. Most important, the work they did, (two implants, to hold lower dentures) was very secure and I'm free of the hassle and pain. I was concerned at first but he answered all my questions and the whole procedure went well. I definitely would recomend them if you need that type of work done. 2 thumbs up!"

"The office is well run. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and knowledgeable. Procedures were explained and all questions answered. Oral surgery can be an intimidating proposition, but Dr. Ryan and his staff are sensitive to that by providing excellent pain management and results."
