Things to Know Before Your Procedure

Being nervous about your procedure is normal. Please refer to the medications list and/or meet with Dr. Ryan if you feel you will require an anti-anxiety medication for your appointment. We offer several options for anxiety including oral sedation, IV sedation and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). You will need a driver to escort you to and from the appointment if electing any of these options.

If you are consuming aspirin or herbal supplements on a regular basis, please let us know. We may need to make adjustments to your normal routine for a few days prior to your appointment; or in some cases, we may need to speak to your physician prior to your procedure.
Also, make sure that our office is up to date on all of your medications, allergies to medications, or any uncontrolled medical issues you may have.

Keep the area that we will be treating as clean as possible prior to your appointment.

Please follow all instructions on pre-operative medications prescribed and call our team with any questions you may have.

Things to Prepare Before Your Procedure

Ice will decrease inflammation and swelling that occurs after your treatment and helps to decrease pain by numbing sore tissues. Have icepacks available at home for after your appointment

Have foods for a soft diet available for the day after your procedure; such as milk, cooked cereals, apple sauce, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc.

Soups, broiled fish, stewed chicken, mashed potatoes, cooked vegetables and pasta can be added to your diet as your comfort indicates over the next few days. Protein shakes supply excellent added nutrition.

Avoid foods such as potato chips, popcorn, crackers, etc. as well as hot, spicy foods to avoid irritation of the surgery site for at least one week after your procedure. Also avoid acidic foods such as tomatoes, orange or other citrus juices.

"Had an overall great experience with Dr. Ryan. The staff was very courteous and professional. Most important, the work they did, (two implants, to hold lower dentures) was very secure and I'm free of the hassle and pain. I was concerned at first but he answered all my questions and the whole procedure went well. I definitely would recomend them if you need that type of work done. 2 thumbs up!"

~ George G.

"The office is well run. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and knowledgeable. Procedures were explained and all questions answered. Oral surgery can be an intimidating proposition, but Dr. Ryan and his staff are sensitive to that by providing excellent pain management and results."
~ Lisa S.
