Post Operative Care Following Dental Implant Surgery
•  Do not disturb the wound. Avoid rinsing, spitting or touching the wound on the day of surgery
•  Bleeding can be normal for 2-3 hours following your surgery. Excessive bleeding can be controlled by biting on a gauze ad placed directly over the wound. Some bleeding and/or redness in your saliva are normal for 24 hours. If after 4 hours, you continue to have excessive bleeding (your mouth is filling up with blood) please call our office.
•  Swelling is normal after surgery. Ice packs for the first 24 hours can help control swelling. After 24 hours, you can switch to warm, moist heat. (a warm washcloth or heating pad wrapped in a towel). Swelling will usually peak at 48 hours after your procedure.
•  A soft diet is recommended after surgery. Please avoid chewing in the areas where the dental implant(s) were placed. Foods you may eat include
•  soup, oatmeal, ice cream, smoothies (no straw), scrambled eggs, pudding, etc. You should begin to resume a normal diet within a week. Dr. Ryan will review your progress at your post-op visit.
•  You should begin your pain medication within an hour after your surgery. Always eat before taking your medication to prevent nausea. If you were prescribed antibiotics, begin those also.
•  Good oral hygiene is essential for healing. The day of your surgery, begin warm salt water rinses (one tsp of salt per cup). Do this twice a day
•  once in the morning and again in the evening/bedtime. Do not brush your teeth the night of surgery. You may resume brushing the day following your surgery.
•  Keep physical activities to a minimum following your surgery. Running, exercising or heavy lifting will prolong bleeding. You may ease back into normal activities over the next several days so long as your bleeding has stopped.
•  Partial dentures, flippers or full dentures should not be used immediately after surgery. Dr. Ryan will let you know when you should be able to wear your appliance again based on your procedure.

Please call our office with any questions or concerns you may have, or Dr. Ryan if you have a question outside of our regular business hours of 7:30 – 4pm

WHY OUR PATIENTS &
REFERRING DOCTORS LOVE US

"Had an overall great experience with Dr. Ryan. The staff was very courteous and professional. Most important, the work they did, (two implants, to hold lower dentures) was very secure and I'm free of the hassle and pain. I was concerned at first but he answered all my questions and the whole procedure went well. I definitely would recomend them if you need that type of work done. 2 thumbs up!"
~ Keith I.
"Best doc we have ever been to. My son felt safe and relaxed with him and his staff."
~ George G.

"The office is well run. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and knowledgeable. Procedures were explained and all questions answered. Oral surgery can be an intimidating proposition, but Dr. Ryan and his staff are sensitive to that by providing excellent pain management and results."
~ Lisa S.
